Cherish is built on a simple belief: your family's memories are yours. This privacy policy explains how Cherish handles your data โ and the answer, in nearly every case, is that it doesn't. Everything happens on your device, under your control, always.
What We Collect
Cherish does not collect, transmit, store, or access any personal information. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no user profiles, and no telemetry of any kind.
We have no servers that receive data from your device. We cannot see your photos, your face data, your file names, or anything else โ because none of it ever leaves your Mac.
๐ Cherish has no back-end. There is nothing to share, sell, or subpoena. Your data exists only on your device.
Face Recognition
Cherish's VIP System uses on-device face recognition to identify the people who matter most to you. This is powered entirely by Apple's CoreML and Vision frameworks โ running locally on your Mac's own neural engine.
- Face embeddings (mathematical representations of faces) are stored only on your Mac
- No face data, images, or embeddings are ever transmitted anywhere
- Face recognition never uses a network connection
- Your VIP data is part of Cherish's Sacred Data Guard โ it survives every update
- You can delete all VIP data at any time from within the app
The face recognition system is designed so that even Cherish's developers cannot access your facial recognition data โ because it never leaves your device.
Photo Access
Cherish requests access to your photo library and/or selected folders on your Mac in order to do its job: organizing, scanning, and helping you find your memories.
- Photos are read from your local storage only
- Cherish does not upload, share, or copy your photos anywhere
- Scan results and metadata are stored locally in
~/Library/Application Support/Cherish/ - You control which folders Cherish can access through macOS privacy settings
Backups
Cherish can back up your photo library to an external drive of your choosing. This backup is entirely under your control.
- Backups go only to drives you explicitly select
- No cloud backup is performed โ ever
- Backup destinations are local, physical drives
- Cherish's Sacred Data Guard protects your scan results, VIP identifications, and all your work through every app update
Third-Party Services
Cherish uses no third-party analytics, crash reporting, advertising networks, or any other external services.
- No Google Analytics, Firebase, or similar
- No Mixpanel, Amplitude, or event tracking
- No Crashlytics or crash-reporting services
- No advertising SDKs of any kind
- No social login (no Apple Sign-In even โ you don't need an account)
Cherish relies only on Apple's own frameworks (CoreML, Vision, AppKit, Photos) โ all of which run locally on your device.
Children's Privacy
Because Cherish collects no data whatsoever, it is safe for users of all ages. Many families use Cherish to organize and preserve photos of children.
Cherish is rated 4+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children or adults, because we do not collect any information at all.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever update this privacy policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date. Because our policy is already "we collect nothing," we don't anticipate meaningful changes โ but we'll be transparent if anything does change.
This page will always reflect the current policy for the most recent version of Cherish.
